08 JULY 2013
Marzotto Group with the contribution of Linificio and Canapificio Nazionale and some Group's business units, on the occasion of Pitti Uomo 84, presented Linen Yarn, a special project devoted to linen that involves three international schools: Central Saint Martins, London; Università Iuav, Venice; and Polimoda, Florence.
Menswear designed by the most promising students was on show in a venue conceived for encouraging new international talent. This has led to setting up the Linen Yarn Greenhouse, a genuine incubator where the Marzotto Group, together with Pitti Immagine, promotes a new creative attitude to linen yarn.
With Linen Yarn our ideas are concentrated on the creative inspiration resulting from using linen. The double meaning of the word yarn gave us the idea of telling a new experimental tale about linen by interweaving the international talents found in the most important fashion schools in the world.
Each school has translated its weaves from its own language and its own sphere of inspiration. The course leaders of the three schools involved have guided their students along a specific course of study and interpretation, the results of which was presented during Pitti Uomo.
These experiments have led to the development of three different themes: the Capsule Collection S/S 2014 by the Central Saint Martins school presented a deconstructed and casual male silhouette inspired by the British heritage. Università Iuav, Venice presented linen in a new and elegant version that draws on the codes of men's evening wear. Polimoda, Florence had concentrated on tailoring techniques and had been inspired by the various ethnicities present in Europe, not only for the volumes and forms, but also for printing and decoration techniques.
