District Heating for the City of Valdagno

Efficient, sustainable and local energy for the community and the territory

THE PLANT: The Marzotto Group site in Valdagno will host the production facility for the new district heating plant developed by Edison Next, implemented under an agreement dedicated to the development of high-efficiency energy solutions. The system will be powered by a high-efficiency cogeneration unit and a wood-biomass boiler.

THE COMMUNITY AND THE COMPANY:
The thermal energy produced (hot water) will be distributed to the local community through the new district heating network infrastructure, while the electricity generated will contribute to covering part of Marzotto Group’s energy demand, strengthening efficiency and supporting the Group’s path toward greater sustainability.

Replacing individual gas generators (such as traditional domestic boilers) with district heating will allow connected users to achieve heating cost reductions estimated between 10% and 20% compared with current expenditure levels, while significantly reducing atmospheric emissions.

The project is based on a strategic partnership between Marzotto, which will make its Valdagno site available, and Edison Next, responsible for developing the production plant and the district heating network.

The project includes the construction of a biomass plant and a cogeneration facility, enabling the combined generation of thermal and electrical energy.

The heat produced will be distributed through a district heating network serving the urban area of the Municipality of Valdagno, with the objective of maximizing energy efficiency, reducing waste and generating widespread benefits for the community.

The plant will operate using natural gas and locally sourced wood biomass, supplied through a short supply chain involving forestry companies, agricultural businesses and local artisans.

In this way, the initiative goes beyond a purely technical energy upgrade and represents a driver of local socio-economic development, combining environmental sustainability with positive impacts on employment and social cohesion.

The new district heating network will provide efficient thermal energy to public buildings and private users, replacing outdated gas generators, simplifying maintenance and improving building safety.

This will lead to lower heating costs, reduced atmospheric emissions and improved air quality. The project will also support the development of urban infrastructure and services aimed at enhancing safety and innovation across the local area.

The use of virgin wood biomass sourced from a short supply chain, combined with high-efficiency energy systems, will increase the share of renewable energy and significantly reduce climate-altering emissions associated with energy production.

The initiative promotes a circular economy model, enhances local resources and contributes to the sustainable management of the area’s environmental and forestry assets.

The project will increase the energy efficiency of our Valdagno site through the integration of a high-efficiency cogeneration system and the use of shared thermal energy.

The combined production of electricity and heat will allow to reduced natural gas consumption, lower CO₂ emissions and strengthened energy independence all in line with the Group’s sustainability objectives.

Edison’s technical staff are available to assess the connection of all users located within the main urban area who wish to join the network.
